Maintaining your mental health is essential for being the best parent you can be. This track offers sessions that focus on mental health and well-being, including stress management techniques, coping strategies, and resources for seeking help. Whether you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, or depression, these sessions will provide valuable insights and tools to help you prioritize your mental health.
Concurrent Session 1: Reconceptualizing Mentoring for Mental Health & Wellness
This session will explore how colonial apprenticeship norms in mentoring can harm mental health and wellness. Participants will learn how to foster holistic care, check self interests, share power, extend consensual goals, and culturally sensitive practices. Target audience will include mentors, educators, and mental health professionals aiming to create balanced, empowering mentoring relationships.

Jeremy “JP” Vincent is Baby Nova’s daddy. He’s also a life partner, joy-pository-mentor, PhD student pause out, advocate, organizer, outdoor nurturer, and critical contextualizer. He is also a joy-transmitter who breathes life into social work practice and provider work, lecturer, trainer, coach, and facilitator when called to task. JP’s roots are in Memphis, TN, and Cairo, IL. He grew up in South Side Chicago and its suburbs before moving to the Southwest Wisconsin Tri-State area in 2008. He has a BS in Health and Wellness, an MSE in Adult Education-Human Services, and a Social Worker Certification. He has over 10+ years of experience in educational and supportive services across diverse communities. JP is the Owner+Founder of My Black Carrot Mentoring Hub.

Concurrent Session 2: Mental Flex: Meditation Training for Performance and Well-Being
Discover effective ways for fathers to engage in meditation for improved performance in sports, tactical, and business environments. Learn actionable frameworks and experiences to incorporate meditation into your daily routine, enhancing both personal and professional well-being.

Chad McGehee, M.A. M.Ed., is a meditation teacher, scientific collaborator and trusted coach working at the intersection of elite performance and rigorous meditation training. At the University of Wisconsin’s Athletic Department, Chad became the first ever Director of Meditation Training in major college sports. Chad is an honorary research affiliate of the Center for Healthy Minds at UW-Madison. Chad uses a teaching approach that incorporates findings from cutting edge research along with accessible ways to integrate meditation practices into overall training. Chad’s work has been featured on ESPN, in the Wall Street Journal, NPR and as a co-author in peer-reviewed scientific journals. His training has been integrated in K-12 education, special forces teams and business arenas.

Concurrent Session 3: Balancing Act: Prioritizing Physical and Mental Health as a Father
This workshop aims to challenge the myth that fathers can’t prioritize their mental health. Your presenter will engage in meaningful dialogue that emphasizes self-care’s importance for effective parenting and personal well-being, highlighting that nurturing oneself is key to being the best version for family.

Shannon Reed is an experienced Health Interventionist, Researcher, Motivator, and Father of two. He is current studying kinesiology. With more than 7 years in Sports management, Shannon excels in mental health discussions and diverse training techniques. Shannon researches cancer disparities at the Medical College of Wisconsin, focusing on African American men’s health where his passion for addressing healthcare inequalities shines through. Committed to public education on health and wellness, he values God, family, and health.

Concurrent Session 4: Building a Healthy Community
This workshop will help participants discover practical strategies for men to build supportive communities at work and beyond, enhancing both mental and physical well-being. This workshop will provide actionable tools and insights to strengthen personal and professional connections for a healthier, more resilient life.

Korbey is the owner and CEO of the See Hear Learn (LLC) where he teaches businesses of all types how to organically create and implement Staff Networking Groups/ Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). Korbey is also the Health Program Manager for the State of Wisconsin headquartered at the State Department of Employee Trust Funds. He holds a bachelor’s degree in international business and African American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Certificate from Cornell University. Korbey serves on the Madison College Board of Trustees, the Verona Area School District’s Board of Education, the Board of the Dane County Immunization Coalition, the Sherman Phoenix Foundation, the 100 Black Men of Madison, and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
